HOLE 1
Par: 4

Stroke Index: 8

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 43m

Pro Tip
A strong starting hole with a decision to be made on the tee, “how close down the left side can I go?”, taking on the right to left dog-leg. The landing area is generous at the curve of the hole. The approach to the green is made difficult by its length, which can make as much as a 3 club difference from front to back, and a guarding bunker on the left with a drop off on the right.
HOLE 2
Par: 5

Stroke Index: 14

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 24m

Pro Tip
A classic risk and reward Par 5. Cut the corner, taking on the water, will leave you a relatively short second to take on the raised green. A good birdie opportunity but if liberties are taken, or a mistake is made, this hole will bite back.
HOLE 3
Par: 3

Stroke Index: 18

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 36m

Pro Tip
A simple looking hole that can cause many a problem. The tee shot can be anything from a wedge to a fairway wood. A generous “bail out” area is left of the very long green, with dunes and thick rough to the right. The correct distance is the key, as even hitting your ball on the green may mean you may still have to negotiate one if not both of the big rollers that add teeth to the green.
HOLE 4
Par: 4

Stroke Index: 12

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 45m

Pro Tip
A great natural looking hole, with the raised green, large waste sand bunker to the left of it and rolling fairway with its large fairway bunker to the right. The secret is to hit a tee shot into the space towards the left, not being tempted down the right. Your approach needs to be of the correct distance, if not it will leave you some of the fastest puts to be found on the whole course.
HOLE 5
Par: 4

Stroke Index: 2

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 30m

Pro Tip
Probably the toughest Par 4, long enough off the yellows and a real monster off the whites. The tee shot needs to played with confidence towards the right side, leaving the best angle for your long second into a raised green. The slopes on the left and back of the green can be used to control your approach. A par here should be greatfully accepted at any time.
HOLE 6
Par: 4

Stroke Index: 6

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 26m

Pro Tip
A raised tee tempts you to hit a drive down the right side, but as this hole dog-leg is to the right, too far that way will mean a bogey at best. The approach is with a short to medium iron to a tricky green, with a ridge in the centre, making putting never easy. The bail out area is left, as there are trees and dunes right, but it will mean playing a very difficult flop shot to recover for your par.
HOLE 7
Par: 5

Stroke Index: 10

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 35m

Pro Tip
A beautiful rolling Par 5, that is out of range except for the very longest hitters. The tee shot is intimidating with trees on both sides, the approach is made tricky by the long green, guarded on the right by slopes and bunkers, which can leave a huge putt if you get your distance wrong.
HOLE 8
Par: 3

Stroke Index: 16

Width of green: 21

Length of green:  19m

Pro Tip
A signature short hole, that normally plays into wind. Premium is put on getting the club choice correct, with the lake in front of you and steep slopes and bunkers at the back. From the yellows it’s no ”gimmie” and from the back tees it’s a real handful.
HOLE 9
Par: 4

Stroke Index: 4

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 23m

Pro Tip
Another strong Par 4 to finish the front nine. This hole usually plays into the wind and with trees and deep rough on both sides a good drive is most important, the landing area for which is much larger than can be seen from the tee. The green is wide and shallow, making the approach shot play longer than it looks.
HOLE 10
Par: 5

Stroke Index: 7

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 38m

Pro Tip
A fantastic hole with its elevated tee, giving you a panoramic view. Out of bounds down the left side is helped by plenty of space to the right. The safer option is to hit a mid iron to the wide landing area about 70m short of the green, following it with a wedge shot that has good distance control due to the green’s long length. The green is one of the flattest at Praia d’el Rey.
HOLE 11
Par: 3

Stroke Index: 13

Width of green: 21

Length of green: 27m

Pro Tip
The toughest Par 3 at Praia D’El Rey. Straight up hill, making club selection important and making the hole play longer than the distance indicated. With slopes and bunkers guarding the sides and rear, the only place to miss this green is short, leaving a testing pitch.
